Oliver Camphausen is a genius of a pipe maker in Germany who does really fantastic work.
The picture above shows a pipe he has just carved for me, made with the spent shell of a .458 Winchester Magnum bullet – a big bore used for hunting the “big five” in Africa.
Don’t call the cops, this pipe is on display in München.
When I get there, I’m going to use it to smoke some Lakeland tobacco.
Lakeland is the region in England where the Gawith clan produced snuff. Presumably the soapy/floral aroma is from their original snuff products, carried into their pipe tobacco. (After the Gawiths had a family feud, they split into Samuel Gawith and Gawith Hoggarth.)
More about Lakeland tobacco tomorrow.
