Near to Vat Sisaket is Vat Ho Phra Keo, built by King Setthathirat in 1565.
It is popular with Thai tourists as the temple is also called the Temple of the Emerald Buddha.
The king built this temple to house the Emerald Buddha which he moved from Lanna (present day Chiang Mai) to Vientiane.
The Emerald Buddha is now back in the Vat Phra Keo in Bangkok.
Vat Ho Phra Keo in Vientiane is now encircled by bronze statues of Buddha in various positions of meditation and offers some of the finest examples of Buddhist sculptures in Laos.
