14-year-old Thai teenage girl Peneakchanasak Nitcharee fell off the MRT platform at Ang Mo Kio station on Sunday and had her legs crushed by an incoming train.

In a five-hour operation doctors amputated her legs below the knee.

Yesterday, an aunt who arrived from Hat Yai in the afternoon was escorted by Thai Embassy officials to Tan Tock Seng Hospital to see her.

The girl’s parents have been stranded in their home town Trang, which is among the Thai towns hit by recent floods.

Peneakchanasak, who has been learning English over a month-long course at the Cambridge School of Education at Peninsula Plaza, was to go home on Friday.

Dr Lemmy Teo, the vice-principal of the Cambridge School of Education, where the girl has been studying English has visited her.

But both the girl’s aunt and her guardian said SMRT had not contacted them as of yesterday, and expressed hope of hearing from the train operator soon.

The Land Transport Authority, when asked whether the completion date for safety barriers on MRT station platforms would be brought forward to prevent another such mishap, responded with a fact sheet, which stated that the 1.6m-high sliding doors take four to six months to be installed.

Imagine this – they responded with a fucking fact sheet!!!

A fact sheet!!!
