Highly Recommended: Hotel Éclat, Taipei

I’ve just returned from Taipei last week (my last visit was more than 15 years ago) refreshed and recharged, thanks partly to a wonderful hotel I stayed at – the Hotel Éclat.

Unlike many hotels in Taipei that are very kitschy, Hotel Éclat is truly an outstanding home away from home.

The hotel is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, and is strategically situated in the most fashionable and prestigious district of Taipei.

At Hotel Éclat the feeling of luxury and exclusivity is enhanced by numerous original art pieces and sculptures by contemporary artists such as Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, Yin Jun, LI Shan, Gao Xiao Wu, to mention just a few.

The hotel is also extremely high tech, and rooms are luxuriously appointed – complete with Mont Blanc stationery, Nespresso machine, fog-free bathroom mirror, warm toilet seat, etc.

An original Dali sculpture.

Paintings like this adorn the hotel and guests are encouraged to visit every floor to admire them.

If you're there for a dirty weekend, one flick of a switch is all it takes to render the wall separating the bathroom and the bedroom transparent.

Trash bins open when they sense you approaching, and toilet seats are absolutely high tech.

There's even a TV for your viewing pleasure as you sit on your throne. Elsewhere in the room is a larger flat-screen TV and Bang & Olufsen sound system.
