Heartache at Tokyo Bay

I’ve often wondered

Had you not been cut down in your prime

How old would you be today

And what we would be doing tonight

No doubt strolling hand-in-land

Watching the sunset at Tokyo Bay

As the sky turned an orangey-golden

We’d be swapping haikus all the way.

I’ve often wondered

Had you not been cut down in your prime

How many kids would we have today

Little Hanako and little Yumita

Squealing with laughter

Childish energies unbridled

With spontaneity unhindered

Chasing butterflies at Toyko Bay

With our snow-white Akita trailing not far away.

I’ve often wondered

Had you not been cut down in your prime

How would you look today

Your petite frame

Anointed by womanhood

Your silky-soft, straight long hair

Framing your sweet little face

A woman-child angelic as always

You would have grown to be quite a lady

A loving wife and a great mummy

I’d say.

Footsteps in the sand

Leave behind more than memories

You are gone

But impressions linger

Sights and thoughts trigger

In my mind’s eye are visuals –

And hand-in-hand together here we are again

With little Hanako, Yumita and our snow-white Akita

So happy at Tokyo Bay.
