Smelling the Flowers

2024 was a phenomenal year – I underwent a major surgery for total (left) hip replacement, spent a few great days catching up with my soul mate Ian in Melbourne and attended his son’s wedding and then went on a month-long road trip throughout the UK before flying to Vietnam to participate in the wedding festivities of a friend. My wife and I also commemorated 40 years of happy marriage on board the Doulos Phos.

This year, more than ever, I want to evaluate my choice with regards to this blog going forward.

Those of you who have been following me know that after retiring an earlier blog, I started this blog 15 years ago.

Blogs may not be passé, but I suspect not many people read them. Back in the day, blogs ruled the roost for personal thoughts and specialized interests. But now, people have tons of options for consuming and sharing content, thanks to social media, video platforms like YouTube and TikTok, and even podcasts. All these vie for people’s attention.

So am I going to stop blogging?

I don’t think so, I’ve always said that I blog for myself, for catharsis. I’m not trying to write War and Peace. But having gotten myself a new hip and continuing to work on my back problems, I may want to get out more, travel to see the world, make those trips I’ve always wanted to make, take time to smell the flowers, or at least the coffee.

In short, I’ll be around here, but maybe rather infrequently.

Thanks for reading.
